20th OPEN COMPETITION GUIDELINES

SCALE MODELING GUIDELINES

For the Open competition

GENERAL COMPETITION RULES

I. Eligibility to Compete – The IPMS – Bert Anido Baguio 20th Open Static Model Competition is

open to all current Active Official IPMS:BA-Baguio Members in good standing, IPMS: Bert Anido

Philippines Active Official Members and all plastic scale modellers.

II. Entry Eligibility –Must be a legitimate scale model kit that is assembled. –Must be at least 80% Plastic/ Resin/ ABS/ PVC in composition.

**For New Entries

(Only current and active Official IPMS:BA-Baguio Members with “New Entries” are eligible for 

raffle.) – Entries should be new and not previously entered/worked on.

**For old Entries: –should not have won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd even Gold, Silver or Bronze place in any previous IPMS

Club Hosted scale modeling competition. –May be previously refurbished but is still covered by the previous rule.

III. Judging

1. Entries will not be labeled on who built it and what brand it is.

All judging is impartial. In the Contest Room, only judges are allowed to be assisted by

secretariat. Ideally, knowledge of who built a particular model must not influence the outcome

of the judging.

2. Judges are not allowed to compete in their respective categories.

3. All competing entries shall be judged and graded accordingly using the same set of rules and

applying the same criteria.

4. From the time that judging begins, and until the conclusion of the awards ceremony, judges 

will not disclose the outcome of any portion of the contest to anyone.

IV. Prohibitions

1. There shall be no depiction of excretory functions depicting any human being or animal.

2. There shall be no depiction of sado-masochistic activity, equipment, settings or situations, to 

any degree, regardless of whether there are figures in the model and regardless of whether any 

figures present in the model are clothed.

3. There shall be no depictions of explicit sexual conduct, bilateral or autoerotic, regardless of 

degree and regardless of the clothing-status of the participants that involves the touching of

the 

breasts or genitals or other erogenous zones of any depicted figure. (Must cover in public if 

there are any.)

4. There shall be no depiction of any nude human male or female figures where the genitalia of 

the figures are exposed or where the clear intent of the same is to portray a sexual scene.

(Must cover in public if there are any.)

5. Toys are disqualified from joining.

V. JUDGING CRITERIA

Platinum – 100%

Gold with Honors – 91 – 99%

Gold – 86 – 90%

Silver – 81 – 85%

Bronze –  76-80%

Diploma – 75% and below

figures fall to the SCI-FIGURES CATEGORY. Non MechaGundam Vehicles such as 1/35 

Gundam Tanks and 1/550 Motherships fall to the SCI-FI VEHICLES CATEGORY. Please be 

guided.

E. WARHAMMER

E1 – Single Miniature

— Miniature on an appropriately sized base – including miniatures mounted on smaller vehicles and creatures like bikes, jetbikes, and beasts.

— Ratlings to Terminators, Ork Warbosses, Tech-Priest Domini

— Characters like Maugan Ra, Illuminor Szeras, Daemon Princes, and Roboute Guilliman

E2 – Squad or Kill Team

— Three or more miniatures.

— Displayed on an appropriately sized base.

— Miniatures on foot, small vehicles, and miniatures mounted on bikes, jetbikes and beasts, provided they are organised into a unit of three or more models

— Grots to Tyranid Warriors, XV8 Crisis Battlesuits, and Aeldari Shining Spears

E3 – Large Model or Vehicle

— Vehicle or large model mounted on an appropriately sized base
— Tanks, walkers, flyers, and monsters

— Everything from Falcon grav-tanks to Baneblades, Nemesis Dreadknights to Plagueburst Crawlers, Trygons to Aeldari Avatars, or Greater Daemons

— Named characters like the C’tan Shard of the Void Dragon, Ka’Bandha, and Szarekh, The Silent King

— Models entered into this category that, for any reason, do not require a base may still be mounted on an appropriately sized base.

E4 – Diorama or Duel

— Scenic displays and duels based on the worlds of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer: The Horus Heresy, Warhammer: The Old World, Middle-earth™ Strategy Battle Game, Necromunda, and Blood Bowl

— Mounted on an appropriately sized base

— Subject should be appropriate to the background of the world in which it is set, but otherwise, there are no restrictions on the battle scene’s theme or content.

VII. AWARDS

*Static Model Competition*- All Categories and/or Subcategories will be awarded with a 

Corresponding Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.

*Best In Show Award* -An award to the static model competing entry which is judged best of all 

entries in the competition. (Must be Gold winner)

*Point-system Awards (Overall Champion) -Overall Winner -A Competitor who garners the most points in the competition

§ Gold with honors = 10 points

§ Platinum = 20 points

§ Choice Award = 13 points

§ Special Award = 20 points

*Most Number of New Entries Award*-Reserved to the competitor with the most number of 

competing registered Entries

*Choice-Award*-An award given to the BEST ENTRY of each of the corresponding BRANDS

*Chairman’s Cup* -An award given to the competitor with a perfect score from his/her entry

and winner of platinum medal. 

*Presidential Cup* -An award given to the competitor which has earned the most number of

gold medals.

*Theme Build* -An award given for the most outstanding theme build entry.

*Speed Build* -A Competitor who has built a specific kit on a given time with the most proper 

execution and presentation of the speed build kit.

*People’s Choice Award* -An award voted by guests at the event itself via ballot box.

*Shakespeare’s Choice Award*-An award dedicated to one of the hobby’s Founders in the 

Philippines. Judges would decide on a 1/48 or 1/32 Aircraft kit with the specific brands of either

Tamiya or Trumpeter.

*Frank’s Choice Award* -An award dedicated to one of IPMS Bert Anido’s Founders. Judges 

would decide on any Ship entry under any scale. 

VIII. DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. MASTER- A competitor who has won 1st place, Gold, or Platinum in any IPMS hosted event.

2. AMATEUR – A competitor who has not won 1st place, Gold, or Platinum for any IPMS Hosted

event. The Term “Amateur” does not apply to skill, craftsmanship, work output, or experience

in the hobby.

3. SCI-FI – Fiction based on imagined future scientific or technological advances and major 

social or environmental changes.

4. DIORAMA – A model representing a scene with three-dimensional figures.

5. VIGNETTE – A smaller version of a diorama, not exceeding a square area of 6X6 inches.

6. OOB – Out-Of-The-Box – A scale model entry that it is built using all parts included within its 

original packaging.

7. MOD – Modified – A scale model Entry with partial or extensive modifications using 

aftermarket parts or scratch-built effects.
